A school in Pathanamthitta district organized an innovative “Repair Fest” to encourage students to embrace the principles of sustainability, resource conservation, and responsible consumption. Instead of discarding damaged or unused items, students, teachers, and volunteers came together to repair household appliances, bicycles, furniture, electronic gadgets, toys, and other everyday objects. The initiative aimed to reduce waste while promoting the value of repairing and reusing items rather than replacing them.
The event featured practical workshops where participants learned basic repair techniques from skilled technicians and volunteers. Students gained hands-on experience in fixing electrical appliances, stitching torn clothing, restoring school furniture, and repairing bicycles and small electronic devices. The program also highlighted the importance of environmental conservation by demonstrating how repairing products can reduce landfill waste, conserve natural resources, and lower the environmental impact of excessive consumerism.
