Heavy monsoon rains have caused extensive damage to agricultural lands across Kerala, with the estimated crop loss nearing ₹100 crore. Several districts, including Pathanamthitta, witnessed widespread destruction of paddy fields, vegetable farms, banana plantations, rubber estates, and other agricultural crops due to continuous rainfall, flooding, and waterlogging. Thousands of farmers have been affected, suffering significant financial losses as standing crops were destroyed and agricultural activities came to a halt.
In response to the growing crisis, the Kerala Government has requested ₹110 crore in financial assistance from the Central Government to support relief and rehabilitation efforts. The proposed aid is intended to compensate affected farmers, restore damaged farmland, repair irrigation infrastructure, and provide assistance for restarting agricultural activities. Officials from the Agriculture Department have been conducting field inspections to assess the extent of the damage and prepare detailed reports for relief distribution.
