According to preliminary reports, the fire is believed to have started in a banana chips-making shop before rapidly spreading to nearby shops after an LPG gas cylinder exploded. The blaze quickly engulfed surrounding buildings, destroying four shops, including food outlets and a bakery, and creating panic among shopkeepers, customers, and local residents.
Fire and Rescue Services from Pathanamthitta, Konni, and Adoor rushed to the scene with multiple fire engines to contain the flames. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, where most received treatment for burn injuries, while one seriously injured person was referred to a higher medical facility for specialized care.
